Little Miss Care

Nora can be quite bossy, very bossy actually. I guess she got that from me as I always tell her to do or not to do things.

But I also show her lots of love and she knows that I care… that is why she is very bossy in a very caring way. Here are a few stories…

~~~~~~~~~~
I was chatting to Liz, Nathaniels mom yesterday. We were in the same antenatal classes, and then baby yoga classes and now Nora and Nate are in the same nursery.
Anyway, Liz told me that there was one time when she picked Nate up, Nora was very attentive towards Nate. She helped check that Nate is securely in his buggy and then blew him a kiss.
~~~~~~~~~~

There was another time when Matt, Nate’s dad, picked him up, Nora ran after them with a hat saying it’s Nate’s hat. Matt told her not to worry as it’s not Nate’s hat, until he took it (as she was very persistent), had a look and realized that it is Nate’s hat!

~~~~~~~~~~
When we were at Ivy’s birthday party, I was holding little Ivar. Nora came over and I said, look baby and was worried she’ll get jealous. She went off and a few moments later came back with a toy for Ivar. She did give me a couple more minutes with Ivar before asking me to pick her up.
~~~~~~~~~~

I don’t like Nora sticking her tongue out or do a raspberry, and she knows that. So when we (Nora, Jules and I) were sitting on the sofa and Jules and Nora started making faces at each other and then sticking tongues out at each other, I just let it be… until she turned and stuck her tongue out at me. I told her sternly ‘No, Nora’ and she immediately turned to Jules and said ‘No, daddy’ wagging her finger at him. See… she does care about what I think.

Proud Mother Syndrome III – Hujan! Rain! Pluei!

Nora came into the bathroom as I was getting out of the shower. She pointed out I was ‘basah’ (wet) and I thank her for pointing out the obvious.

As I was drying my hair, she must have felt the water drops as she started yelling ‘Hujan! Hujan!’ (Rain! Rain!).

I find it really amazing that she is a bilingual toddler. I just wish that I had continued signing with her… but she does watch Something Special and follow Justin and Mr Tumble sign. She does know the sign for ‘rain’.

Who knows… maybe she’ll be trilingual as she does do a bit of French at Nursery too and will be yelling ‘Pluei! Pluei!’ instead next time she barges into the bathroom when I’m drying my hair with the towel.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower plantOur cauliflower plants are under attack!

According to vegetable book that I have, the leaves could be ravaged by white butterfly caterpillars or pigeons. I haven’t seen many butterflies in the garden but we do have lots of wood pigeon… could it be the big fat pigeons.

Oh well… at least I could now see the cauliflower coming out… so hopefully the bulbs will come out OK and we will figure out what to do about the leaves for the next crop.

The Count

The Count is one my favourite character from Sesame Street. I actually learnt to count from him… as I learnt my love for cookies from Cookie Monster. But that’s not what I’m here to write about…

Nora can count to ten.

I find it cute when she sits at her table and tries to count her crayons; and when I read her the Hungry Caterpillar book at night, she counts the fruits with me.

Why is this not a ‘Proud Mother Syndrome’ post?

Don’t get me wrong, I am very proud of her but I also know that she is not really aware of numbers and amount. She’s just doing it by memory. She knows two comes after one, three comes after two and so on, but I know if I ask her to get me three balls, she has yet to learn that.

Why do I know this? As Jules and I observed, when she does sit and count her crayons, she’d go “three, four, five” for one pile and when she does another pile she’d go “three, four, five” again. So, she hasn’t yet associate the number with the amount.

But that will soon come as she is very keen on opening my purse everytime she sees it… hoping to count the money that I don’t have, maybe?

Is It Because I Is Black?

Today’s Nursery story…

Tracy passed me Nora’s dirty clothes. It was in a plastic bag and looked pretty manky! Tracy told me that it’s not what I think… to tell you the truth I didn’t know what to think but one thing I know, Nora hasn’t soiled in her nappy for ages! She’s been very good with going to her potty for that… and no, Tracy confirmed it was not that.

According to Tracy, the Busy Bees were having painting activity today. She turned to wash something at the basin for just a few seconds, when she turned around, Nora and two other Busy Bees had painted themselves black all over!

I asked Nora who the other culprits were… and Nora just smiled and put her index finger on her mouth. I see that she’s not a snitch!

She was cleaned up well at Nursery but when she had her bath and I started to shampoo her hair, the water started to turn murky. I didn’t realize that her hair was darker than usual. *sigh*

Our Garden

It was a bank holiday and traditionally in the UK, bank holidays are spent doing DIY or the garden. And this year, after years of neglect, our garden is slowly taking shape.

Jules built brilliant decking for us to relax on and have a BBQ. He also made beddings for Nora and me to fill with vegetables and flowers!

To help the bees… we’ve planted some lavender, cosmos and some red daisy like plant that Nora chose. They all had a bee sticker on them. Around them we planted thyme, oregano and garlic.

The cauliflowers are growing well… so are the carrots and potatoes!

I think… I might pull a carrot out soon… once I’ve used up the carrots I bought from the supermarket.

Hear Ear

Nora’s got the all clear for her ears. Which means no more yucky medicine for her.

However, as we were heading out, she was singing at the top of her voice and I kept telling her to sush as we were at the hospital. Did she listen to me? Of course not. Maybe I should go back to the doctor and ask him if he is positively sure that Nora’s ears are all clear!
