No Mandi

Nora used to enjoy bath time… but lately she’s been trying everything to avoid it! We have no idea why. Jules thinks that ever since I took the bubbles out of her bath it been difficult to get her in the bath… but I had to as her skin was looking very sore! I’ll put the bubbles back in tonight and see if it works.

My mom doesn’t have a bathtub and we just used a bucket and a dipper when we were there. Worked fine with Nora… and better still for ehr if we just leave the tap in the back garden open… she’d stay there for ages… ‘wash hands’ according to her, dripping from head to toe!

Itch

Nora has always had a bit of eczema. When we went up North, her eczema got a bit worse. I try to be very careful with her baby bathing products and I thought I had found one that worked. But when we came back from Malaysia, her eczema seem to be worse than before.

While we were in Malaysia, I bought a head-to-toe wash and just hoped that she’ll be fine as I forgot to bring her stuff from here. The funny thing was, after a couple of days, her skin was nice and smooth… apart from the insect bites. She had no skin problems at all.

Neither did I.

Now we’re back… both of us are itching. Maybe it’s the water.

London Bound

Nora has really enjoyed her time in Malaysia. I think she loves the space in my mom’s house, outside my mom’s house, the neighbour’s house, my brother’s house, the shopping malls… the only place that we restrict her movement is in the car and the bus.

And in a few hours time… she’ll be restricted for 13 hours in the airplane bound for London.

It’s been good being home… now it’s time to go to our other home.

And Then There Were 10

I went to buy newspapers at the corner shop (when I say corner shop it’s not actually just around the corner as I do have to drive there) and when I got back to my mom’s house, there was a commotion at the back of the house. Nora has released the chicks from their sleeping basket!

My mom was laughing and I told Nora to put the chicks back into the basket. So she picked up the chicks by the tail, head, wings etc. and threw them back into the basket. Poor little things.

After two weeks, Nora is now brave enough to pick the chicks… and I also saw her pick up the momma hen by the tail!

Mom took the chicks out for their morning feed and when she was picking them up again to put in the basket, there were only 10 of them instead of 11. Oh dear… I hope it has nothing to do with Nora throwing the chicks about… there are cobras, lizards and eagles about… maybe one of them had a nice hearty breakfast of freerange organic chicken.

The Birds and The Butterfly

Following a peacock

We were at my brother’s over the weekend and he took us to the Birds’ Park and the Butterfly Park. I have to say that I’m more impressed with the KL Birds Park than the one in Singapore which we went to last year! It is more spacious (or feels like it is) and greener and the birds seemed happier.

Nora really enjoyed it especially as she has her Auntie showing her a bad example by chasing the peacocks. My brother and I told her, as in my sister, that if she got told off we’re going to say that we do not know who she is!

As for the Butterfly Park, it is lovely… but a bit of a disappointment… due this disillusion that I have that when we walk in the butterflies will descend upon me and flutter about for photos… like you see in advertisements. Of course that didn’t happen. There were loads of butterflies… but they were just too high or to fast to take any photos.

Oh… and thanks big bro for the birthday cake. Do try to make me feel much older next time!

Proud Mother Syndrome 2

travel potty

It has taken me what feels like forever to potty train Nora. It’s not just having an over active toddler that makes it difficult, it’s also me being tired and lazy.

But I keep reminding myself that Nora is getting older and that my mom potty trained us all by 10 months or a year the most! Mom told me to just let her wander around our home with just her panties and no nappies and after a few accidents, she would know what to do. The problem is majority of our home is carpeted… I know that is a lousy excuse.

A couple of weeks ago before I even knew I was going to Malaysia, I bought her a travelling potty which arrived a couple of days before I bought the tickets. How convenient! Jules said that my mom would sort her out… but I also know my mom’s mentality is, she is your child you sort her out and I’ll advise where I see fit.

The good thing about mom’s house (as most houses in Malaysia) is the floors are not carpeted. So when Nora is at home, she runs around in her panties… and a few accidents happened… and I tell her off… and my mom console her *sigh*

But today… as I was uploading some photos to send to Jules, Nora looked at me desperately and cried out ‘poopoo’ but nothing happened when I took her to her potty. I told her that she’s a good girl anyway for being aware.

So, I sat down again only to rush to her a minute later when she again cried out poopoo. I told her no matter how many times this happen, I am happy that she does it. When she did stand up, I must be the proudest mom to see a poo in a potty!!

Little Chicken Chaser

Feeding chickens

Nora and I have been in Malaysia since Sunday. It was a sudden decision when I found out a week ago that my grandma had a stroke. I was told it was mild but I decided to fly over anyway hoping to spend sometime with my grandma. Unfortunately, it was not mild and she passed away a day before we were due to fly.

But the tickets were booked and as I was hoping to spend sometime with grandma, it was booked for two weeks. I decided to fly anyway and spend sometime with family.

The moment we arrived at my mom’s house, we had a shower and off we went to grandma’s grave and then the her home… where most of the family are still gathered. It was good to see them again and to be embraced into a family atmosphere again. There’s never shortage of my cousins who are willing to entertain Nora. She loved the attention… though she was confused by the crowd of fans surrounding her at first.

Now that we’ve been here a few days, Nora has develop her own routine. She does not say ‘yes’ when I ask her if she wants her morning milk, she says ‘yes’ to ‘Do you want to feed the chickens with Nan?’

She hasn’t watched TV but most of the day she’ll be playing, running in my mom’s house or outside chasing the chickens… like we did about half an hour ago… she forced me to go and chase all the chickens home.

She’s made friends with Julia, the neighbours’ cat and also Norhan, the neighbours grandson. As I’m typing this, she is at the neighbours house… she knows how to head there herself… but my mom did go with her this time.

At night, when she wakes up in the middle of the night, she will ask to go down to Nan’s (my mom’s) room and everytime I tell her off for not sleeping, she’ll go crying to my mom. *sigh*

Everyone we bumped into are so surprised that she understands Malay… and now I am very proud to say that she fits into a ‘kampung’ (even though my mom lives in a city) environment no problem :)

But she still asks for her daddy everyday…

Sudden Trip

Nora and I will be flying off to Malaysia this Saturday to be with family. My grandma… her great grandma is ill. I am terrified about travelling alone with her, but it has to be done.

I Want That Kite!!

Nora knows no fear…

When she saw this Blue Peter Bear kite flying up on Sunday when we were at the Kite Day at Streatham Common, she ran towards it with no hesitation. She leaves the worry, anxiety and heart attack to me.
