Art Appreciation

Nora and I went to Tate Modern yesterday. To be honest, when I was an art student, I was never really impressed with all these modern ‘art’. I think I am a traditionalist at heart. I can appreciate good art but I guess my definition of good art is different from modern artist and critics. I think most of them are trying to be clever with their impressionist art… I think it’s so boring and yesterday. Duchamp thought of it and everyone followed.

Anyway… I don’t think Nora thought much of all the modern art around her. She was more impressed by the view of St Paul’s as we sat at the cafe on the 4th floor.

But saying that… she did show an interest towards Matisse’s ‘The Snail’. Probably because it’s huge and colourful. I’m glad as Matisse is one of my favourite artist and ‘The Snail’ is one of my favourite artwork.

She also started intently at Monet’s ‘Waterlilies’. Again, I think it’s due to the scale of the painting.

But the scale of the painting isn’t everything because she really didn’t show much interest in other huge paintings. I guess she just have taste.

Oh… she also liked a sculpture by Anish Kapoor. I think it’s because she could see her upside down reflection.

We did the 3rd floor. On our next visit, we’ll do the 7th floor where there’s a better view of St Paul’s and see what other art Tate Modern has to offer.
