Boom! Shaka Sha

Nora is currenlyt obssessed with Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Actually she is a bit obssessed with dinosaurs but that is the only dinosaur animated movie that we have at the moment.

Yesterday, as we were walking home from Nursery she kept singing ‘Boom! Shaka sha! Boom! Shaka sha!’ as in the movie theme song ‘Walk the Dinosaur’. She even has her little dance just for that song!

This morning, when I woke her up and took her to the front room, she said she wanted dinosaur. I asked her if she wants to watch cbeebies instead and she answered ‘No. I want dinosaur.’

I wonder how many times can she watch the movie before getting bored!

She must have seen it at least 10 times now since Jules bought the Ice Age DVD box set… and she’s only watching Ice Age 3!

Not Swimming

I had Monday off and while I was getting Nora ready for Nursery, she was looking at the fishes in the fish tank, saying hello to the baby fishes as she calls them.

Suddenly, she told me ‘Mama fish not swimming’

I looked in the fish tank and sure enough, one of the little fishes was lying on the gravel at the entrance of the pineapple house.

‘Fish sleeping’ Nora explained to me.

I told her ‘Yes, fish is sleeping. Let’s tell daddy and say bye bye to the fish.’

Which she did and we went to Nursery.

When she came back from Nursery in the evening, she looked for the fish. ‘Fish gone’ she said.

I told her ‘Yes, fish is now gone.’

I’m so glad that we only have some fish and no cute, cuddly, furry animal in the house. I think Nora is just a bit too little to understand the concept of death but it will be something that we will talk about in the future.

Sleep

Nora’s sleeping on our bed. I’m watching TV… suddenly I heard

‘Mommy’

I went to the bedroom.

‘Nora all right?’

She replied ‘Mommy sleep with me’

Time to brush my teeth and go to bed…

Seeing Double

The last two Fridays, Nora and I have been going to a playgroup. It is very popular and they only allow a certain amount of children in so Liz (Nathaniel’s mom) and me raced each other to get there first. I tend to lose as when I sent a text to Liz last week saying we were getting ready to go… I ended up arguing with Nora for at least five minutes about whether or not we’re taking the buggy with us, where she won the argument and she walked… which took a while. But we were in the middle of the queue so we were let in when the door was opened.

Oh… it’s a ticketed system and I think they give out 50 tickets. Maybe less but it does feel there must be at least 50 kids/toddlers/babies in there!

Anyway, this week as I needed to take Nora to the library as some of her books were due back, I didn’t have the energy to do that, go to the playgroup, and then swimming lessons… on top of doing household chores and cooking her meal. So, we dropped the playgroup.

When we get to the library, I return the book at the self service counter and Nora then put it on the trolley next to it. She then runs to the lift as she wants to make sure that she’s the one who press the button and we go to the kids section. She then picks her books to read at the library as I go through the shelves and choose the books to take home. I build my little pile and kept on looking.

After about half an hour at the kids section at the library, we’ll go back downstairs and again I go to the self service counter. I just count how many books I have and make sure that the same amount comes out on the screen. We then leave for home.

This time, after she had her lunch and we got ready for her afternoon nap, I took the books out from her library bag and we picked three books to read… that was when I noticed… there were two of the same books!!

Little madam must have added that book to my pile of books! Oh well… she seemed to like the book of ‘Scaredy Cat and Boo!’

No

As I was leaving to go away on Wednesday, I nearly drove past my wife and little girl. She is a little girl now. Not a baby, not a toddler, a little girl. She runs like mario, she climbs, she falls, sometimes she cries, sometimes she laughs… sometimes she even tells herself off for it… or says sorry daddy….. bless. Well, I peeped the horn and pulled in to give them both a kiss before I ran off for my big adventure.

Nora was in her pram. She cried… “daddy no go. Daddy no car, daddy jalan jalan”.

She wanted me to walk back with her, rather than drive off. Tear jerker. Especially as I was leaving to throw myself out of a plane. (my baby.x)

Princess

Last weekend, I put Nora in a skirt. She started twirlling and said ‘Princess’.

Jules and I do not encourage this ‘princess’ thinking as we do not want her to suffer from the ‘Princess Syndrome’. Do a google search on it and you’ll find lots of article on this.

But saying that, instead of telling her ‘No, Nora you’re not a princess’ I asked her ‘Do you live in a castle?’ and had a little conversation with her about it. Obviously she will not understand the conversation, but it’s a start to bringing her thoughts down back to earth.

And if she still wants to be a princess, one day I will tell her of the girl who went to University to get an education… met a prince… fell in love… and got married. Did they live happily ever after? Only time will tell.

We’re also having a ‘pink’ issue at the moment. We don’t encourage or discourage any colour. She has a wonderful array of colours in her wardrobe… but sometimes I do admit that I buy too much red for her. No idea why.

Liz (Nathaniel’s mom) said that it might be something to do with nature v. nurture. I disagree. Kids do not discriminate. Nora sometimes says she wants the pink top and then picked up her Cookie Monster top which is green and blue. I think it’s more to do with influence from her friends in Nursery whose parents encourage the idea of ‘pink’ and ‘princess’.

We have a lot of work to do.

It’s Not a Request

Jules gave Nora a bath and afterwards, she was insisting that I dress her and Jules makes her milk when it’s usually the other way round. I told her she’s not the boss but I agreed to dress her anyways.

She was jumping up and down on her bed and they keep trying to press her body cream bottle… anything but keep still. I threaten her with naughty corner.

Mama: Nora if you don’t stop you go naughty corner.

Nora continued ignoring me.

Mama: Nora! You go naughty corner now!

Nora: No thanks (nonchalantly)

Seriously! She drives me insane… most of the time! But I wouldn’t have her any other way :)

Little Pirate

Scary pumpkin lit up

BOO!!

Nora had her Halloween Party today. Jules bought her a pirate pyjamas a few weeks back and that was what she was today. And she proudly declared to everyone that she’s a pirate.

Her pirate obsessions is very recent. Probably started on Friday when I borrowed ‘The Night Pirate’ book from the library and now she is aware of the ‘Space Pirates’ programme on cbeebies on weekends.

She did look cute… especially with her hairband pirate hat on and her face painted.

She’s now asleep after I’ve read her ‘The Night Pirate’ story… probably dreaming of whisking the treasure away from the rough, tough grown up pirates ;)
