Nora’s been full of energy today, jumping on the sofa and climbing on the back rest. We keep telling her not to do it and of course she ignored us.
When Nora wears skirts, she likes to say that she’s a princess, even though we don’t encourage the ‘princess thinking’ but I thought I’d use it on her this time, asking her if she’s a princess to which she answered ‘yes’. So, I told her that princesses do not climb about on the sofas. She said OK. So I asked her what she wants to be, to which she answered:
‘FROGGIE!!’
Tell me… how am I supposed to stay angry with her when she comes up with such brilliant answers like that?

Nora and I went to Earlsfield with Nate and Liz to see a fire engine. It was cool when it arrived. We stood in a queue to get in the fire engine, when it was Nora’s turn, she decided she didn’t want to sit in it to have her photo taken. In fact, she didn’t even want to have a photo taken with the fire engine! But it was still cool nevertheless and 5 minutes later it received a call and had to leave. How dramatic. But it did come back about 10 minutes later.
We then decided to go to Fara, a secondhand baby/toddler/kid stuff shop. I made a mistake of letting Nora out of her buggy. She was trying out every single toy and then pointed to a pair of black shoes to me. I told her that we’re just window shopping and not getting anything. I asked her to get in the buggy so we could leave and she threw the biggest tantrum ever!
That was the first time she threw a tantrum in public! I was at a loss! I seriously did not know what to do. I kept on trying to calm her down. Just kept on and on saying her name. In the end when she did calm down, and I agreed that she could walk and not get in the buggy but we are not getting that pair of black shoes. She walked out of the shop holding Liz’s hand as she was still upset with me.
But she was soon in her buggy again and all is well when we got back to our neighbourhood, especially when we stopped at Primark and I got her a new sun hat and sunglasses… not that we need them now as apparently the weather will return to the norm instead of the summer sun we had of late… but they will be handy for our trip to Malaysia
Anyway… Nate will be away for 2 weeks… so she won’t have her usual Friday playmate for the next two Fridays

Nora had her painting session in the garden this morning. It is such a lovely day
As she is getting bigger and runs around in the garden more, I must really get the garden in shape!
Anyway… it all ended up in a mess. Her jumper is ruined, her hands were covered in paint… but it seemed less a mess in the garden rather than if it had been in the house

Yesterday, when I went to pick Nora up from Nursery, Hayley told me that Nora had a really great time and said that everybody is her best friend
But by that time, she had changed me mind and told me that Sam is her best friend
And when we got home, she told me Daisy is her best friend but Daisy wasn’t at Nursery yesterday.
Hayley also told me that Joseph (another staff member) told her that Nora told him that she loves Nathaniel, which I thought was sweet. They do see each other almost every other Friday and play really well together.
But when I told Jules at dinner time, Jules said that ‘I say hello to that boy every time I see him. I think I need to have a few more words with him next time.’
For heaven’s sake! They’re only two and a half!

We were in Homebase today and after getting the stuff that we needed, Nora decided to sit on one of the display sofa. Jules told her to follow us to the cashier and called her monkey, to which she replied
‘I’m NOT a monkey…’
Which I thought was fair enough… and then she continued.
‘I’m a baboon!’
That got me giggling!
One of the cbeebies stuff that I really enjoy watching with her is Tinga Tinga Tales. It’s just stories of the animals in Africa… why elephant has a trunk, why crabs walk sideways, why snakes don’t have legs, why zebras have stripes… you get the idea. The last episode I watched with her was weeks ago on why baboons have a bare bottom.
Baboon in the story likes to play tricks and the animals keep calling him a naughty/cheeky/mean monkey… and the phrase the baboon used was of course
‘I’m NOT a monkey, I’m a baboon’
But somehow it’s funnier when Nora says it than the baboon in the story itself

This Sunday is Mothering Sunday in the UK.
On Wednesday, when I went to pick Nora up from Nursery, Nora handed me the Mother’s Day card she made
It has a tea bag attached in the card so I could sit back and relax and have a nice cup of tea on the day.
Sweet idea but that’s not going to happen. Too many chores to do around the house.
Today, when I got home with Nora after her play date with Nathaniel, there was a box of tulips waiting for me
Jules told me they should have delivered it on Sunday itself. But hey… who cares. Although I’ve been here for almost 20 years, I still think Mother’s Day is in May.

Nora argues with Jules and I all the time as we do have a normal child/parents relationship, but she could also be very diplomatic as I don’t think she likes conflict.
We went to visit Maya ages ago and they were playing happily. It was almost home time and both of them were tired. Nora picked up a doll and Maya started crying. Instead of keeping hold of the doll, Nora gave it to Maya and said she’s sorry.
Heidi was playing in the garden with Nora. Nora puts down her juice and Heidi pulled the starw out. Instead of snatching it back from Heidi, she handed Heidi her drink bottle and then took the straw off Heidi.
And where dogs and cats are concerned, I don’t like dogs and Jules doesn’t like cats. The way Nora apease this:
‘Mama likes cats. Mama don’t like dogs. Daddy like dogs. Daddy don’t like cats. Nora like cats AND dogs’.
I do like the way she avoids major conflicts. There’s just so much I could learn from her.
