Not A Water Baby

Goodness me! I know Nora hates taking her bath but tonight her scream was extra piercing! I think my eardrums are gone. She screamed so hard that there were points that I thought she’s going to destroy her vocal chords because no sound was coming out for every few seconds!

We went to the Health Clinic today and got her weighed. She’s 5.22kg now! My little girl is growing fast. While we were at the clinic we bumped into Mrs Hobs and Baby R. Mrs Hobs told me that she took Baby R to swimming lessons and it’s quite funny how babies just love water. I was like… ehem… not my baby! Well nothing wrong with being different… she’s her own individual self.

Little Miss Scream is now all dry and clean, and fed, and swaddled up, and in her little Moses basket asleep. It’s all peaceful now. Oh… don’t worry. She’ll be up for her midnight feed and that’s another story!

Massive Explosion!

What are parents for if not to embarrass their kids?

Nora is barely three months so there is not much she can do. This week, I should really increase her tummy time and encourage her to roll over. She is already rolling over half way to her left so she’ll just need a bit of encouragement.

But that is not the reason why I’m writing this post. I wanted to be reminded of what happened last week (at the age of 11 weeks) so I could tell the tale to her future boyfriends (though her daddy says she’s not allowed any boyfriends until she’s 52!).

Last Wednesday we went to St Pancras as Jules had the day off to take photos there. As usual I got things ready for Nora before we left and she was good enough to do a little poo before we left the house. Which made me decide that I didn’t need to bring any change of clothes.

How wrong was I??!!

But she had a poo before so it can’t be that bad…

Again… how wrong was I??!!

As Jules went to sign in I went to the changing room. Seriously… how can so much poo come out from such a little person??!!! It was everywhere and when I turned to get some water from the tap, she started flinging her limbs about which didn’t help! I had to strip her down and the only thing that was clean was her cardigan!

I wasn’t impressed!

Neither was she as there was only cold water so she was screaming when I tried to clean her up! At that moment I wish I was using wipes instead of just cotton wool and water to clean her up!

After what seemed like ages to clean her up, we walked out into the cold with just her cardigan and nappy on! I tried to cover her up with her blanket but she kept on kicking the blanket off and being a right little madam!

And of course the only place that sold baby clothes was Monsoon!! I’ve been buying mostly cheap clothes for her as she is growing fast… so most of her clothes have come from Primark or Sainsbury’s or sale stuff on Verbaudet (and they do really nice stuff on Verbaudet website). I guess little madam is telling me that she really does not want to be a chav princess and that she has class so I should get a more expensive range of clothes! I have news for you little girl… until you earn your own money, you will be my little chav princess!

And for her future boyfriend… you better spend a bit more on her to keep her happy or she will sh*t on you!

Needles

Nora is playing on her gym mat. She’s growing really fast… and at the moment her favourite song… or at least the one that she seems to love and calm down when I sing… is ‘Close to You’ by the Carpenters. She smiles and gurgles along to the song. Sweet.

She’ll be 12 weeks on Wednesday. That means next week will be jab week. She was booked for her second set of jabs for Friday. Not only that, I’ve received confirmation for her BCG jab for Tuesday. Two sets of jabs in a week!

Poor little mite. I guess Calpol will be her best friend again on those days.

It’s Not Yucky, She’s My Baby

Nora and I went to Baby I’s flat yesterday for a playdate with Baby I and Baby L.

Baby I is a big girl now! She’s sitting straight on her bumbo chair enjoying her lunch of butternut squash and prune mash with mashed mango for dessert and a little chunk of banana to nibble on for afters. She rocks sideways and forwards and back like a nutter, squealling with laughter.

Part of me can’t wait for Nora to grow… but I really don’t want to wish the days away either.

As mothers do when they get together, they talk about baby stool (colour, texture, etc), breastfeeding, baby development, etc. I mentioned that Nora’s been having a cold and feeling uncomfortable as her nose is all bunged up. I bought this apparatus to suck all the mucus out of her nose when little nose seemed stuffed up. Mommy L didn’t like the idea of sucking snot out of the nose and I told her there’s a filter so there’s no worry about getting it in your mouth!

But then… if it’s your baby, you’ll try anything to get her/him comfortable.

Rubber Duckie You’re So Fine

When I was growing up, one of my favourite TV programme was Sesame Street. It still is!

When I was in University, I will head back to my dorm, room, flat every lunch time to have my lunch and have Sesame Street on TV… followed by Neighbours.

And then one day… it just stopped. There was no more Sesame Street on TV!!!

Now that I’m a parent, I don’t want Nora to lose out on fun education. The children programmes on TV at the moment are just not the same. So I bought some Sesame Street DVDs for us to sit and watch together.

Maybe she’ll learn to American sign her alphabets like me… Maybe she’ll learn about death and how to deal with it like me when Mr Hooper died. Maybe she’ll learn the fun songs that I did. I’ve been singing ‘C is for cookie’ to her over and over again… at least she’ll know one letter in the alphabet.

Today I’ve been singing the Rubber Duckie song.

And this morning I found out that it’s Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary. I wish they’d bring it back… or I’ll just have to ask someone… ‘how to get to Sesame Street’

Strawberry Flavoured

Nora’s medicine is sugar free and strawberry flavoured… I guess to make it more palatable. But then Nora has never tasted strawberry so I really don’t think it matters to her.

All she cares about is that she does not like medicine.

Even so, I’ve always managed to get her to swallow her medicine down.

But not this morning!

She opened her mouth, I put the little spoon in and poured the medicine to the back of her mouth… she then closed her mouth and spat it all out!! After she did that she looked at me and beamed a smile!

Now tell me… how am I supposed to be cross with her when she gives me her cutest smile?

Cold

I have a cold… Nora has a tantrum.

I decided to take preventative measures and went to Boots yesterday to get Calpol for Nora. Then I saw ’2+ Months’ on the box and I thought… oh no…

Jules looked at me as asked me what’s wrong with me as Nora is going to be 2 months on Monday. I don’t know why but that sent a shock through my system!

Two months??!!

I don’t know why but I keep thinking that she’s still this tiny newborn baby instead of a forever growing baby! Maybe that’s why she’s been grumpy lately… I should really increase her feed.

At least I’m not wishing her early days away…

Play Time

I have to say that I’m lucky to have Mommy L and Baby I around or I wouldn’t know about things that are happening around my borough. Well… I would but it might have taken a bit longer.

On Monday all for of us had a long walk towards Earlsfield for the One O’clock Centre. Mommy L and Baby I has been going to another One O’clock Centre but wanted to try this one out because it had a Sensory Room. So off we went with our babies and buggies. After 20 minutes we found it but of course with all the laws of the universe, it was shut for cleaning and will open again on Thursday! So we sat in the playground as the Centre was in the park and Baby I, who is a few months older than Nora, had a go on the baby swing… and Nora and I sat on the park bench looking around and had little chats with the nice posh mommies of Earlsfield. They really recommend the Sensory Room for Nora and Baby I and raved about the Centre.

So yesterday we tried again. This time Mommy C and Baby L, whom Mommy L met at the other Centre came along. Hey… the more the merrier!

When we got there, there were little ones playing outside the Centre. Loads of toys about and loads of toys inside the Centre too! I was thinking we don’t have to buy toys ever again because of all the free toys in the Centre!

We were given a few information about the Sensory Room and we went in and was amazed by it. There was a floor with fiber optics glowing. There was a ball pool in a corner. A seaside board where you touch the pictures and it will play the sound. There was fiber optics strand by the water bed which Baby I loved and started munching on. There were lava lamps with balls and bubble and Nora loved the bubbles!

As the room is soooooo popular and not very big, there can only be six child and six mommies in one go, and we can only be in the room for 15 minutes. But the 15 minutes was really worth it for Nora. Yesterday was bubbles… maybe next week we’ll do the balls!

Unfortunately I was not able to join them next Tuesday for Rhyme Time at Balham Library. Nora has to see the Health Visitor and we’re seeing Mommy LW and Baby M. But the week after, it will be Rhyme Time for us!

Batman and Jabs

Happy Birthday to Jules! He’s 30 something and got Arkham Asylum. He may be a Daddy now but he still love his play time.

Nora is eight weeks today and she received her first set of jabs! Yes, life can be so cruel!
