Coco Spinning

Here’s Coco enjoying a little spin in his Qute (at last). Apart from getting stuck in the log (which we now have removed), I think he’s settling in fine.

Dinosaurs Do Not Eat Children and Hamsters

One of Nora’s birthday presents was a ‘dinosaur egg’.

This evening, before bed time, Jules helped Nora soak the egg and apparently a dinosaur will come out tomorrow.

Nora comes up with fantastic stories sometimes and I should really write them down. Like tonight she was talking about the dinosaur egg hatching and when the dinosaur comes out, it will start growling and look for something to eat. It will eat mama and daddy. Nora will be fine as dinosaurs do not eat children.

I asked her who she would live with after the dinosaur eats mama and daddy… straight away she answered ‘Coco’ her hamster, because don’t eat hamsters either.

She said she will miss her mama and daddy… but hey, I guess life goes on (the last sentence is mine, not hers).

Missing Hamsters

One of the reason I agreed to the hamsters is so that Nora will learn to be gentle and caring.

But unfortunately, they escaped. They are apparently very clever at this.

We managed to find Coco and I put him in the ball this morning so Nora could play with him.

But unfortunately, Nora didn’t listen and have not learnt to be gentle and caring. Apparently, after I left for work, she bounced the ball, the lid came off and Coco made a run for it.

Now we have two hamsters running lose in the house.

The problem is we have lots of places for the hamsters to hide… and Jules is really annoyed.

I guess Nora is not ready for a hamster or at least play with it unsupervised. It’s a lesson learnt for both of us.

And Now She is Three

And I’m tired out.

I’ve been on my feet from the moment I opened my eyes today. Nora requested a ghost cake to bring to pre-school and that’s what I made for her.

I also made her some gingerdead men.

And to finish off… some party bags for her pre-school friends to take home.

I think we did all right for her third birthday. Her big present are the hamster cage and Coco and Blanco… her hamsters. But the cage didn’t arrive complete… and her hamsters escaped… We managed to find Coco but Blanco is still MIA. Still… we didn’t do too badly for her third birthday.

And She Will Be Three

Dear Nora,

When we wake up tomorrow morning, you will be three. It has been a challenging and amazing three years. It hasn’t been easy but I would not change it for anything in the world.

On Thursday, when I called daddy to find out if he’s picking you up from nursery and he passed the phone to you, I found it amazing that we actually had a proper conversation. I don’t know why I was as we’ve been talking to each other for a while… but I guess I was thinking it was not long ago that you couldn’t string a sentence together, let alone a word!

Each day, you amaze me. There are times I wish I was more diligent at recording all these moments… but I don’t. I’m not worried though… like when I lost my phone and all the photos I took of you… I’m just glad that I have you…

And you just woke up looking for me saying you want me.

Let go to bed.

Syawal 1433 Menjelang

So on the last day of Ramadan, I’ve been busy in the kitchen. I had some Malay Eid songs playing in the background courtesy of youtube and I shed some tears. No matter how I try to recreate… it will never be the same as home… And even if I was home, it wouldn’t be the same either… how I miss my late grandparents. They made everything so special on Eid.

But I Nora need to know that it is a special day after a month of fasting. I am glad that towards the end of Ramadan, she did get the fact that I’m fasting, therefore I can’t eat or drink with her during dinner time. And now that one of her chores is to set the dinner table, she only set a place for Jules and her as she knows… “Mama puasa”.

So yesterday, as I said, Nora and I got busy in the kitchen.

Southsea

pebble footprintYesterday we went to Southsea, Portsmouth. The weather forecast predicted doom and gloom but it turned out to be such a scorching day. We had a long walkway by the beach to the VW event and noticed there was lots of things to go to, like the Butterfly House and the Aquarium.

Maybe we’ll make another trip down to Portsmouth one day… when I’m not fasting and have a bit more energy to do things.

But it was a lovely day out anyway. Jules bought Nora a bucket and spade set. However, it was pebble beach and it was a bit hard for her to build a pebble castle :) Another trip to the sand pit in the near future I think.

Licking It Clean

Nora was eating chocolate and her hand was messy with melted chocolate. I told her that she needed to clean her hands… as in either wash her hands or get some wipes and wipe them clean. Instead, she licked her fingers and said “All clean!”

Hmmmmm… I think we need a bit more lesson on hygiene.

12 Ramadan 1433

In accordance to the Islamic calendar, today, three years ago Nora was born. I am ever so grateful to be a mother to a very independent, resilient child. Syukur alhamdullillah.
