While I recover, Dr Nora is looking after me and she takes her responsibility very seriously indeed

Nora started pre-school today!! She was so excited! As I was pushing her buggy (very slowly indeed as I still find breathing an ordeal) she kept saying that she’s a big girl now and that she’s no longer in Busy Bee but will be in pre-school!

I’m so proud of her

On Saturday, full with cold, I took Nora to Scarlett’s birthday party. They are such good friends in Nursery that I can’t say to her that she couldn’t go because I have a cold. So we went. As the day progresses I got worse and after Scarlett blew the candles, I reluctantly coaxed Nora to leave her friends.

We got home and I went straight to bed as I really did not feel well… only to wake up in the middle of the night with breathing problems! I do have mild asthma so I do tend to get this from time to time… but actually I haven’t had it for ages that I didn’t have an inhaler handy… and the GP would be closed on a Sunday.

Still I wasn’t worried as it usually pass after a couple of hours.

Only this time it didn’t. I couldn’t breathe and my chest felt tight. At around 5am I started looking though NHS website and went through the questions. The last bit of it… there was a red box saying that I should call 999 immediately!

My usual reaction… oh come on… I’m overreacting! I’ll be fine… but it got worse and worse and when Nora was up I couldn’t even finish my sentences without gasping for air!

Jules took me to the A&E. I thought it would be good. They’ll prescribe me an inhaler and everything will be fine.

The woman who was triaging the A&E immediately took me in… I was like… WOW!!! I don’t have to wait for four hours??!!

She put the oxygen mask on my, took my blood pressure, my temperature… and called another nurse to get blood out of me. I was like… WHAT???!!!

Than they transferred met to another A&E wad for me to see a doctor, who had my chest x-rayed and they were still trying to find a vein to get blood out of me… six attempts later… they succeeded!

Questions after questions, the doctor called up to see if a bed is available for me to keep me overnight!

Nora was pretty upset when she found out that I might not be going home. It was heart-renching indeed.

But in the end the x-ray and blood test came out clear and the doctor in the Acute Respiratory wad was happy to discharge me… only for me to have to wait another 6 hours for my medication from the pharmacist.

Thanks to Jules for looking after me and Nora… taking me to the hospital and waiting with me for my medication. Thanks to all the nurses and doctors who looked after me… thanks to June, the patient opposite my bed, who is hilarious! But no thanks to the weirdo next to me who must be the worse patient ever that there was a little cheer from everybody when she moved wad!

That was an experience indeed. I have a couple of follow ups… but I hope it won’t happen again… and if it does, I’m glad I’m just a stone throw away from the capable hands of the staff in St George’s Hospital.

On Wednesday, when I went to pick Nora up from Nursery, Nora handed me the Mother’s Day card she made

It has a tea bag attached in the card so I could sit back and relax and have a nice cup of tea on the day.

Sweet idea but that’s not going to happen. Too many chores to do around the house.

Today, when I got home with Nora after her play date with Nathaniel, there was a box of tulips waiting for me

Jules told me they should have delivered it on Sunday itself. But hey… who cares. Although I’ve been here for almost 20 years, I still think Mother’s Day is in May.

Nora’s back in Nursery, Jules is at work and I took another day off just to have a breather.

Herman is also back at Nursery. Alive, the last time I looked but didn’t move from his corner or ate his lettuce! But he’s gone now and off my responsibility list! Going to miss that little fella. The corner looks really empty without his box.

Anyway, Britain is still in recession, public transport ticket gone up above inflation, public sector worker’s (that’s me) salary is capped, it’s blowing gales outside and the sky is grey… but it’s a new year and new challenges. Wishing the best to everybody.

Once again it is the time of year when we all look back and reflect on the mmmmmm coookies we ate so far this year!!!! Yom yom yom yom yom COOOKIIIEEEEEE!!!!

BOO!!

Nora had her Halloween Party today. Jules bought her a pirate pyjamas a few weeks back and that was what she was today. And she proudly declared to everyone that she’s a pirate.

Her pirate obsessions is very recent. Probably started on Friday when I borrowed ‘The Night Pirate’ book from the library and now she is aware of the ‘Space Pirates’ programme on cbeebies on weekends.

She did look cute… especially with her hairband pirate hat on and her face painted.

She’s now asleep after I’ve read her ‘The Night Pirate’ story… probably dreaming of whisking the treasure away from the rough, tough grown up pirates
